Introduction
If someone you love has recently had a spinal cord injury (SCI), you obviously want to find out as much as you can about what the future holds for them.

You've probably already been told by a healthcare professional that the effects of an SCI depend on how high up the spinal cord the injury occurred and how extensive the damage is. However, your expectations for your relative’s future will depend on your own level of knowledge – about general medical matters and about spinal injuries in particular. Some people fear that their loved one will become permanently and totally paralysed, while others may believe that the injured person will make a full recovery – the reality is likely to be something in between.
